Police said the 2023 case still includes another wanted suspect.
ATLANTA, Ga. — A second suspect has been arrested in the 2023 killing of Army veteran Korri Jackson, who was shot while resting in his vehicle between jobs in northwest Atlanta.
The arrest marked a major step in a case that had left Jackson’s family waiting more than two years for answers. Atlanta police said Kmauri Burnett was taken into custody in Duluth, Minnesota, while another suspect, Rodreiko Russell, remained wanted.
Jackson was killed April 20, 2023, outside a townhome community on Main Street. His family said he had been sleeping in his work van after leaving one job and before heading to another. Investigators later said the shooting was tied to suspects who were stealing vehicles.
Burnett became the second person behind bars in the case. Police previously arrested John’kevious Anderson and charged him with murder. Authorities said Burnett had been on Atlanta police’s Most Wanted list before officers in Minnesota arrested him on unrelated drug charges.
Jackson’s mother, Kalena Davis, said the arrest brought relief but did not erase the pain of losing her son. “I learned to be thankful for the 26 years that I had with him,” Davis said. She said knowing another suspect was off the street helped her feel safer.
The investigation also included the death of Jalen Curtis, who was killed the same morning about a mile away. Court records and police statements linked the shootings to a group of suspects. Authorities said they were still seeking Russell, who also appeared on Atlanta police’s wanted list.
Police have not said when Burnett would be returned to Georgia to face court proceedings in Fulton County. The next steps include extradition, court appearances and continued efforts to locate the remaining suspect.
As of May 9, 2026, two suspects had been arrested in Jackson’s killing, while police continued seeking Russell. Jackson’s family said the case would not feel complete until every suspect was in custody.
