MARIETTA, GA – Gunfire erupted at a Marietta apartment complex late Wednesday, resulting in two men being injured and leading to a high-speed chase that ended in a crash. It all began when shots were fired at the Lakeside at Towne Center apartments, prompting numerous 911 calls from alarmed residents.
Witnesses provided police with a description of a black BMW speeding away from the scene. Officers soon spotted the vehicle, but it fled, leading to a pursuit that concluded with the car crashing into a power pole and flipping over at the intersection of Polk and Mountain View.
The five occupants of the vehicle, all men, were taken into custody for questioning. A search of the car revealed multiple firearms, including handguns and a rifle. Simultaneously, two men arrived at Kennestone Hospital with gunshot wounds; they were conscious and alert, though their conditions were not specified.
Authorities suspect that as many as 15 people were involved in the shooting, including those in the BMW and the injured men. Detectives are trying to determine if the gunmen were shooting at each other or someone else. At least three weapons were involved in the incident.
The gunfire left its mark, with several vehicles and buildings in the complex riddled with bullet holes. A stray bullet even entered a resident’s window, though no bystanders were injured. Police are still trying to figure out if there are any connections between the individuals involved and the apartment complex.
As the investigation unfolds, police are seeking the public’s help in understanding the motive behind the shooting. The chaotic events of that night remain under scrutiny.
