Alleged Serial Killer Rex Heuermann to Face Fourth Murder Charge in Long Island Court Next Week

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — Alleged serial killer Rex Heuermann is set to return to court next week on Long Island to face charges in connection with the death of a fourth woman whose remains were discovered in a marshy area near Gilgo Beach. Heuermann, 60, is currently facing charges for the murders of three other women, and prosecutors believe he is also responsible for the death of the fourth woman, Maureen Brainard-Barnes.

Heuermann has pleaded not guilty to the killings of Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, and Amber Costello, all of whom were found dead in December 2010. He is being held without bail and is due to appear in court in Riverhead where prosecutors are expected to announce an indictment for the fourth murder.

The new charge comes after investigators found Brainard-Barnes wrapped with a belt bearing the initials WH, believed to stand for Heuermann’s father. The suspect, an architect, was linked to the victims, who were all sex workers, through DNA evidence, including a sample taken from a piece of pizza crust found outside his Manhattan office.

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s office, which is handling the case, has not provided any immediate comment.

In addition to the four identified victims, there are six other unsolved deaths of women in the Gilgo Beach area.

Heuermann’s upcoming court appearance has garnered significant attention as authorities seek justice for the victims and closure for their families.

The suspect’s alleged connection to the victims through DNA evidence and the distinctive belt found with Brainard-Barnes’ remains raise further questions about the extent of his involvement in these tragic deaths.

The upcoming court appearance is a crucial moment in the pursuit of justice for the victims, and it reflects the ongoing efforts to solve the remaining unsolved cases in the Gilgo Beach area.
