Toronto, Ontario – Law enforcement agencies in Ontario are actively collaborating with international partners in the investigation of Kenneth Law, a suspected poison seller now facing charges of murder in connection with multiple deaths across the province.
According to York Regional Police Insp. Simon James, who leads a multi-service task force probing Law’s activities, their efforts involve close cooperation with agencies such as the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the U.K.’s National Crime Agency.
Law, 58, is currently in police custody and is scheduled for a court appearance on December 19 at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Newmarket. The new charges of second-degree murder are related to the alleged victims in various Ontario regions, including Toronto, Peel Region, York Region, Durham Region, Waterloo, London, and Thunder Bay.
Investigators have revealed that the alleged victims in Ontario range in age from 16 to 36, with more than one victim under the age of 18. Law’s lawyer, Matthew Gourlay, issued a brief statement acknowledging the new charges but declined to provide further comment at this early stage.
The investigation into Law began after Peel police arrested him in May following an inquiry into two local deaths. Investigators revealed that Law operated several websites through which he sold items that can be used for self-harm, such as sodium nitrite. It was reported that Law had shipped at least 1,200 packages to people in over 40 countries, with 160 packages sent within Canada.
The alleged scope of Law’s activities stretches far beyond Ontario, with records, statements, and interviews suggesting a possible link to 117 deaths worldwide, including 88 in the U.K. Several countries, including New Zealand, France, Ireland, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland, have confirmed that Law shipped packages to addresses within their borders. Multiple Canadian police forces outside of Ontario are also reviewing past sudden deaths in light of the allegations against Law.
In a news release, Peel police urged the public to remain vigilant regarding home deliveries from specific companies, indicating that the packages could contain items associated with harmful activities. The investigation into Law’s activities and the tragic impact they have had on numerous communities continues to unfold as authorities work to bring justice to the victims and their families.
