17-Year-Old Texas Mother Fatally Shot by On-Off Boyfriend: Baby Left Motherless

DALLAS, Texas – A 17-year-old suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old high school junior in Southern Dallas. Ikea Imari Hood, a mother to a 3-week-old infant girl and a junior at Lancaster High School, was killed on Sunday morning. Trevon Darnell Wright, also 17, was sought by the Dallas Police Department for the murder and was apprehended by a U.S. Marshals Task Force, with an arrest warrant issued on Monday. The motive for the shooting has not been disclosed, and the investigation is ongoing.

Hood, who was described by her family as talented and vibrant, tragically lost her life inside her home. She was a member of the school’s Tigerette Drill Team and had aspirations to graduate, attend college, and dance at the collegiate level. In addition to her school and dance commitments, Hood was reveling in her newfound role as a mother to her baby girl named Ice’Lynn, whom she had just given birth to three weeks prior.

Family members are still trying to come to terms with the loss and grieving together while ensuring that baby Ice’Lynn is provided with love and support. The school district expressed its grief over the loss of one of its students and announced the provision of counseling and grief services for students and staff. A balloon release at Lancaster High School in Hood’s honor is planned, and funeral services are scheduled for the following Saturday.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help with funeral expenses and baby essentials, emphasizing the importance of making sure Ice’Lynn knows the love her mother had for her. Any information related to the case can be reported to Detective Andrew Knoebel at the Dallas Police Department.
