14-Year-Old Charged as Adult in Tragic Shooting of Young Girl in Pennsylvania

Luthersburg, Pennsylvania – A tragic incident unfolded over the weekend in Brady Township, Pennsylvania, where a 14-year-old boy has been charged as an adult with murder in connection to the shooting of a 12-year-old girl. The shooting took place in a small community about 100 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

Authorities responded to a report of a young girl who had been shot by someone with a pistol at the boy’s home. The victim was found in critical condition with a gunshot wound to her head and was rushed to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Children’s Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries days later.

According to court papers, the boy confessed to taking a handgun from his father’s possession and asking the victim if she wanted to see the weapon. Tragically, the boy allegedly pointed the firearm at the girl, pulled the trigger, and the victim suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

The boy’s father, upon investigation, claimed that he did not believe his son knew where the gun was stored and stated that he never keeps a round in the chamber. The father admitted to loading the magazine but indicated that his son may have inserted a round from the magazine for the gun to fire.

Following the tragic event, the 14-year-old boy was charged as an adult with third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment. Prosecutors deemed this a difficult decision, highlighting the severity of the charges given the circumstances of the case.

As investigations continue, the boy remains in custody without bond at the county jail, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 10th. The community is left grappling with the aftermath of a senseless tragedy that has shaken them to the core.
