West Chester Man Accused of Family Murder Gives Lengthy Police Interview During Retrial

HAMILTON, Ohio- A West Chester man is facing a retrial for the alleged murder of four members of his family, with shocking details emerging from his initial interviews with police just hours after the tragic incident. Gurpreet Singh was brought in for questioning less than two hours after he called 911 to report finding his family members dead at home. According to Detective Randy Farris, who testified during the trial, Singh appeared in blood-soaked clothes, from head to toe, when he arrived at the West Chester Police Department on April 28, 2019.

In a gripping account presented in court, Singh described his harrowing discovery upon arriving home that day, revealing how he found his mother-in-law bleeding on the ground, followed by his wife, aunt, and father in the family home. “Please help my family,” Singh pleaded during the interview, as he cooperated with investigators, recounting the events leading up to the distressing moment when he dialed 911. When asked about potential suspects, Singh expressed bewilderment, stating, “I don’t think anybody. I don’t know why.”

The situation took a turn when officers sought to gather evidence by obtaining a search warrant to swab Singh’s hands for gunshot residue. Singh’s demeanor shifted drastically, expressing a strong urge to leave the questioning room and return home. While Singh’s defense team has admitted to certain falsehoods told that night, they now claim that Singh was present at home during the time of the murders but did not commit the actual crime of shooting and killing his family members. Initially charged two months after the tragedy, Singh is accused of murdering his wife, Shalinderjit Kaur, her parents, Hakikat Singh Pannag and Parmjit Kaur, and Parmjit’s sister, Amarjit Kaur.

Facing the potential of a severe penalty, including the death penalty if found guilty, Singh’s first trial ended with a hung jury. Prosecutors are scheduled to continue presenting their case on Monday morning. The case continues to unravel with gripping details and conflicting narratives, leaving many questions unanswered as the legal proceedings unfold in the courtroom.
