Violent Attack Leaves Woman Injured, Councilors Unconscious in Manipur’s Bishnupur District

Imphal, India – A violent attack in the Bishnupur district of Manipur, India, has left a 41-year-old woman and two municipal councilors critically injured. The woman, identified as Umarani, was found with a bullet wound in her right leg, while the councilors were discovered unconscious and severely injured. The attackers remain unidentified, with no group or organization claiming responsibility for the brutal acts.

According to police reports, the incident took place near an oil pump in southern Bishnupur district on Tuesday night. The two councilors, Md Abdul Karim (44) and Md Nasiruddin (46), were found unconscious with severe injuries near the same location where Umarani was discovered with a gunshot wound.

Following the attack, the victims were rushed to an Imphal hospital for urgent medical treatment. The district of Bishnupur has been in the spotlight recently due to attacks on Indian Army personnel. Just last week, two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed, and two others were injured in a similar incident.

Additionally, a women-led group confronted the Indian Army recently, leading to the release of 11 individuals who had been detained with arms and ammunition in Bishnupur. The escalating violence in the region raises concerns about the safety and security of residents and authorities continue their efforts to identify the perpetrators behind the recent attacks.

As investigations continue, the community remains on edge, hoping for swift justice and an end to the cycle of violence plaguing the Bishnupur district. The local authorities are urging anyone with information about the attackers or the circumstances surrounding the violent incidents to come forward and assist in bringing those responsible to justice.
