Tragic Loss: Four Law Enforcement Officers Remembered After Charlotte Mass Shooting

Charlotte, North Carolina – Four law enforcement officers lost their lives in a tragic mass shooting in Charlotte. These officers were fathers, husbands, sons, and respected members of their community. The incident took place as they were attempting to serve a felony warrant on 39-year-old Terry Clark Hughes, Jr. who opened fire on them.

Thomas Weeks, a 48-year-old U.S. Marshals Service officer with 13 years of experience, was one of the officers killed in the line of duty. He was described as a hero by the Director of USMS, Ronald Davis. Weeks leaves behind his wife, Kelly, and four children.

Another fallen officer, Samuel Poloche, was a 42-year-old veteran with the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction. He had 14 years of service and was known for his dedicated work in the Special Operations and Intelligence Unit. Poloche is survived by his wife and two children.

William Alden Elliott, also a 14-year veteran with the Department of Adult Correction, was remembered for his passion for protecting the community. He is survived by his wife and one child.

Officer Joshua Eyer, a 31-year-old CMPD veteran, fought for his life in the hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Eyer, who was recently honored as Officer of the Month, leaves behind a wife and young son.

In the wake of this tragedy, the community has rallied together to support the families of the fallen officers. An initiative by Back The Blue North Carolina has raised over $50,000 on GoFundMe to aid those affected. Meanwhile, the law enforcement officers injured in the shooting are receiving medical treatment, with one officer remaining in the hospital in stable condition after surgery.

As investigations continue into the events of the shooting, officials are looking into multiple facets of the incident, including the possibility of a second shooter. Twelve CMPD officers who discharged their weapons during the exchange have been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

The loss of these brave officers has deeply impacted the community, highlighting the dangers that law enforcement officers face daily in their commitment to protecting and serving the public.
