Man Charged with Murder in Exposition Park Shooting of Two Brothers in Tragic Incident

Exposition Park, Los Angeles – A tragic incident unfolded in the Exposition Park area as a 33-year-old man faces murder charges for the shooting deaths of two brothers. Marcos Navarro stands accused of fatally shooting Sergio Rios, 33, and Ricardo Rios, 19, on June 1. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office revealed that Navarro is charged with two counts of murder, with allegations of personally using a firearm during the crime.

The fatal shooting occurred near Budlong Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, around 2 p.m. The victims were sitting in their parked car when Navarro allegedly fired multiple rounds, resulting in Sergio’s immediate death at the scene, and Ricardo passing away later in the hospital.

Family members mourned the loss of the inseparable brothers, who were running an errand for their loved ones before the tragic event. Despite investigators finding no apparent connection between Navarro and the victims, the motive behind the random attack remains unknown.

During a news conference attended by the victims’ family, emotions ran high as Sergio’s wife, Mabel Lopez, shared her anguish over the future they had envisioned for their two-year-old twins. The senseless violence of the incident highlights the pressing need to prevent firearms from falling into the wrong hands, as expressed by District Attorney George Gascón.

Navarro currently remains in custody on a $5 million bail and is scheduled for arraignment on July 3. If convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of life in state prison. A GoFundMe page has been established to support the grieving family in navigating this challenging time.
