Love Island Star Faye Winter Mourns Tragic Deaths of Two Horses at Aintree Festival, Calls for Racing Changes

Liverpool, England – Love Island star Faye Winter expressed her sorrow at the Aintree Festival following the tragic deaths of two horses, Giovinco and Pikar, during a race on Ladies Day. The incident occurred as 34 horses prepare to tackle the challenging Grand National course.

Winter, known for her love of animals, took to her Instagram page to join the discussion after animal charities called for an end to racing in light of the devastating events on Ladies Day. Both horses fell at jumps and required treatment on the track.

Giovinco, a seven-year-old ridden by Stephen Mulqueen, received extensive veterinary care but succumbed to his injuries from the fall. Pikar suffered a fatal neck injury after a fall, according to campaign group Animal Aid.

In a Q&A session on her Instagram page, Winter was asked about the tragedy. The reality star, who owns a golden retriever named Bonnie, expressed her condolences for Giovinco and Pikar, stating, “I can’t talk about it RIP Giovinco and Pikar from today’s Ladies Day. I pray for them tomorrow.”

Confirming the news of the two deaths, ITV Racing host Ed Chamberlain offered his condolences to the owners, jockeys, and connections of the horses involved. A spokesperson for Aintree Racecourse also expressed condolences and explained the circumstances that led to Giovinco’s euthanasia for his welfare.

The Grand National has implemented safety changes for the 2024 races, including alterations to the fences and the reduction of Fence 11’s height to enhance safety for horses and jockeys. These modifications aim to improve the welfare of racehorses and enhance safety measures at the event.

Winter has recently pledged to raise money for Guide Dogs, having volunteered as a fosterer for guide dogs before finding fame on Love Island. She has shared her passion for animals and continues to advocate for their welfare through her platform.
