GARDEN CITY, KANSAS – Law enforcement officials in southwest Kansas are currently investigating a violent attack on a woman in the early hours of Sunday morning. The incident, involving 47-year-old Joaquin Enrique Cancio-Morales, has sparked concern in the community as details of the altercation surface.
According to reports, police responded to a call just before 1 a.m. on Sunday in the western part of Garden City. Upon arrival, they discovered a woman with visible injuries who claimed to have been involved in a heated argument with Cancio-Morales at a party before the violence escalated once they returned home. Allegedly, Cancio-Morales physically assaulted the woman, threatening her and a family member with a knife when they tried to seek help by calling 911.
The situation took a grave turn when Cancio-Morales proceeded to strike the woman repeatedly over the head with a glass bottle, causing severe injuries. Before authorities could intervene, Cancio-Morales fled the scene, leaving the victim in urgent need of medical attention.
Emergency medical services rushed the injured woman to St. Catherine Hospital for immediate treatment of her wounds. Meanwhile, law enforcement officials were able to locate and apprehend Cancio-Morales without further incident. Currently, he is detained at the Finney County Jail on charges including Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault, Criminal Threat, and Domestic Battery.
