Horsham, United Kingdom – A roofer from Horsham has been sentenced to three years and seven months in prison for a violent assault on a woman in her 40s, leaving her with significant injuries that required hospital treatment. The incident occurred on the night of August 15 and the morning of August 16 as they traveled from Croydon to Horsham, with the victim drifting in and out of consciousness.
Sam Everitt, 34, of no fixed address, was identified as the suspect in the assault and was actively sought for arrest. After weeks of tracking, Everitt was located and taken into custody on October 18. He was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of grievous bodily harm upon appearing before Chichester Crown Court.
In addition to his prison sentence, Everitt was handed a five-year restraining order against the victim and ordered to pay a victim surcharge. The victim is currently receiving support from specialist officers as she recovers from the distressing and prolonged attack.
