Former Doraville Police Officer Found Guilty of Murder in Death of Teen Susana Morales

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. – The fate of former Doraville police officer Miles Bryant has been decided by a jury in a case involving the kidnapping and killing of 16-year-old Susana Morales. Bryant has been found guilty of murder, facing life in prison without parole for his actions.

During the trial at the Gwinnett County Courthouse, the prosecution argued that Bryant betrayed his badge and oath by kidnapping Morales, attempting to rape her, and ultimately ending her life before dumping her body in the woods off Highway 316. They labeled Bryant as a “monster” and “sexual deviant,” highlighting his lies to investigators about Morales’ disappearance and murder.

In contrast, Bryant’s defense attorney, Tracy Drake, argued that there is no concrete evidence linking Bryant to Morales’ death, denying any allegations of malice, murder, kidnapping, or rape. Despite the defense’s claims, the prosecution maintained that Bryant’s handgun, initially reported as stolen, was found near Morales’ skeletal remains seven months after her disappearance.

Throughout the proceedings, the defense put forth the theory that Morales may have died of a drug overdose, attempting to cast doubt on Bryant’s involvement. However, the jury ultimately found Bryant guilty of murder, holding him accountable for the tragic loss of Morales.

As the case comes to a close, the community awaits the sentencing phase, where Bryant will face the consequences of his actions. The trial serves as a somber reminder of the importance of accountability and justice in ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals in society.
