Family of Slain Man Demands Justice as Video Evidence Surfaces in Southwest DC Case

WASHINGTON, D.C., USA – A mother from North Carolina traveled to D.C. to protest the investigation into her son’s killing on Galveston Street SW, just over a year ago. Kristian Stewart, 21, was shot outside the Gardens Apartments in Southwest D.C. His family claims that the moments leading up to his death were captured on video footage, which was later shared on social media.

Tequanitha Stewart, Kristian’s mother, described how her son had been in D.C. for his grandmother’s funeral when the tragic incident occurred. She stated that Kristian was trying to break up a fight when he was jumped by a group of individuals, leading to his fatal shooting. Despite the existence of a video recording with faces of potential suspects, no arrests have been made in the case.

Tequanitha expressed her frustration with law enforcement, stating that she has been told that the investigation is ongoing and that the shooter was not captured on camera. She went on to recount how she had moved her family from D.C. to North Carolina in 2013 to escape violence, only to have her son killed upon returning to the city.

In February, Tequanitha filed a $30 million lawsuit against The Gardens Apartments, citing malfunctioning security cameras that failed to capture the shooting. Despite residing in North Carolina, she remains committed to seeking justice for her son by planning additional visits to D.C. for protests.

Metro Police confirmed that the case is still under investigation and urged anyone with information to come forward. Additionally, a $25,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case, as authorities continue their efforts to bring closure to the Stewart family and deliver justice for Kristian.
