The investigation remained active as relatives and classmates attended funeral services for Giovanna Myrie and Steve Allen.
GWYNN OAK, Md. — Baltimore County police had announced no arrests Wednesday in the fatal shooting of two siblings inside their Gwynn Oak home, leaving major questions unresolved as their family and community gathered to mourn them.
Giovanna Myrie, 15, and her 9-year-old brother, Steve Allen, were found with gunshot wounds July 7 at a home on Talles Road. Police said the children’s parents returned at about 7:30 p.m. and discovered them. The siblings were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Chief Robert McCullough has described the shooting as an isolated incident. Authorities have not released information about a suspected attacker, a motive or the circumstances leading to the children’s deaths. Police said the investigation remained active after funeral services were held Tuesday.
The absence of an arrest has kept attention on the investigation more than two weeks after the shooting. Police have not publicly said whether investigators recovered a weapon, identified a person of interest or determined how someone entered or left the home.
A $2,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Baltimore County police have directed people with information to homicide investigators or Metro Crime Stoppers, which allows tipsters to provide information outside the standard police reporting process.
As detectives continued their work, family members, friends and classmates gathered July 21 at St. Casimir Church in Baltimore for a celebration of life, eulogies and a funeral Mass. Guests were asked to wear black and yellow, the siblings’ favorite colors.
Steve was a student at St. Casimir Catholic School. The school said its community was grieving with his relatives, classmates and teachers and remembered the effect of his smile and presence on those around him. It also asked that the family be given privacy.
The funeral placed renewed focus on the lives lost while investigators continued seeking answers. Publicly available service information referred to the siblings as Gigi and Steve and invited relatives and friends to join the family before the Mass.
Police have not indicated that the wider community faces a continuing threat, but officials have released few details supporting their belief that the shooting was isolated. No criminal charges had been filed, and the identity of the person responsible remained unknown Wednesday.
