Young Missionary Couple and Local Director Killed in Haiti Gang Attack, Bodies Safely Transported to US Embassy

Port-au-Prince, Haiti – Tragedy struck a missionary group working in Haiti as a local director and a young couple from the United States were fatally shot by gang members. The victims, Jude Montis, the local director of Missions in Haiti Inc., and Davy and Natalie Lloyd, a missionary couple, were ambushed by gang members after leaving a church in the community of Lizon in northern Port-au-Prince.

The attack took place amidst widespread violence in Haiti, with gangs exerting control over 80 per cent of the capital city. The incident highlights the deteriorating security situation in the country as authorities await the arrival of a new police force from Kenya, part of a United Nations-backed deployment aimed at addressing gang violence in Haiti.

Jude Montis, a father of two young children, and the Lloyd couple were caught in the crossfire as they tried to seek refuge in a house connected to the mission group. The gang members launched a relentless attack, resulting in the tragic deaths of the missionary couple and the local director.

Family members and supporters of the victims expressed shock and grief over the senseless act of violence. Ben Baker, Natalie Lloyd’s father and a lawmaker in Missouri, mourned the loss of his daughter and son-in-law, describing his heart as being “broken in a thousand pieces.” The mission group, Missions in Haiti, has yet to comment on the tragedy.

The missionary work in Haiti focused on helping children in need, emphasizing the importance of bringing hope and assistance to vulnerable communities. The violent attack that claimed the lives of the dedicated missionaries underscores the challenges faced by those seeking to make a positive impact in a country plagued by instability and gang violence.

As the families of the victims and the mission group mourn their loss, the tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the risks faced by individuals dedicated to serving others in regions affected by violence and insecurity. Despite the devastating outcome, the legacy of Jude Montis and the Lloyd couple’s commitment to helping others will endure, inspiring others to continue the mission of compassion and service in Haiti and beyond.
