Police said a gray Ford struck the pedestrian early Saturday before its driver left the Queens crash scene.
NEW YORK — Police are searching for the driver of a gray Ford that struck and killed an unidentified woman early Saturday in the Corona neighborhood of Queens.
The collision happened around 1:33 a.m. near 57th Avenue and 99th Street, according to police. Officers found the woman lying in the roadway with severe injuries to her head and body.
The woman was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Authorities had not released her name as of Sunday morning.
Investigators said the Ford had been traveling north on 99th Street when it struck the pedestrian. The driver continued away from the scene instead of remaining after the collision, police said.
Police have not released a license plate number or a more detailed description of the vehicle. Authorities also have not disclosed information about the person who was driving it.
The circumstances leading to the collision remain under investigation. Police have not said where the woman was walking immediately before she was struck or whether anyone else was injured.
No arrests had been announced as of Sunday. Investigators continued working to identify the woman and locate the driver and vehicle involved in the fatal collision.
