MILWAUKEE, WI – A Milwaukee woman is facing trial on felony charges after allegedly causing significant damage to a delivery driver’s vehicle. The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute over an incomplete DoorDash order involving chicken wings.
During a recent court appearance, Nia Jones pleaded not guilty to charges related to the alleged vandalism. Prosecutors claim that Jones inflicted approximately $10,000 in damages on the driver’s car after her order was not fulfilled as expected.
The courtroom heard testimony from a Milwaukee police officer who detailed the investigation that led to Jones being identified as a suspect. According to the officer, the delivery driver, Faith Morris, experienced technical difficulties that prevented the completion of the order. Morris returned home and soon began receiving messages and calls from an unknown number.
Surveillance footage from Morris’s home captured a woman knocking on her door in July. Morris identified the woman as the same individual who later approached her car with an object in hand, allegedly causing the damage.
Authorities were able to trace the phone number and address provided by DoorDash to Jones. The officer testified that this information, combined with body camera footage from an unrelated crash scene earlier in the year, helped confirm her identity.
Jones’s defense attorney questioned the evidence, particularly the surveillance footage, arguing that it did not clearly depict Jones committing any vandalism. Despite this, the judge found probable cause to proceed with the trial.
If convicted, Jones could face up to three years in prison for felony criminal property damage. The case has attracted considerable attention, highlighting issues related to food delivery services and customer interactions.
As the trial approaches, both sides are preparing to present their evidence and arguments. The outcome could have significant implications for Jones and potentially influence policies within the food delivery industry.
