DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI – In a shocking turn of events, a woman from Dearborn Heights narrowly escaped death during a violent attack orchestrated by her ex-boyfriend. The woman, who is now recuperating in a hospital, lost her hand in the incident but managed to survive by feigning death. The attack took place on the morning of May 18, as she was preparing breakfast with her fiancé.
The perpetrator, identified as Ashanti Leonelli Ramon McAfee, reportedly stormed into her residence and began firing an AR-15 indiscriminately. The woman’s fiancé was injured in the leg but succeeded in fleeing the scene. The woman, however, sustained multiple injuries, including one that necessitated the amputation of her right hand. In a desperate attempt to save her life, she pretended to be dead, causing the shooter to stop his assault.
McAfee was later detained by police in Detroit. Reflecting on her six-year relationship with McAfee, the woman described him as controlling, but never violent to this extent. She believes his actions stemmed from a possessive mindset, where he was unwilling to let her move on.
The traumatic experience has left the woman facing a lengthy recovery period, both physically and mentally. She is set to receive a prosthetic hand and is determined to adapt to her new reality. Despite the adversity, she remains hopeful, taking life one day at a time while coping with the psychological aftermath.
This incident has highlighted the critical issue of domestic violence and the importance of recognizing early warning signs in relationships. Experts stress the need for heightened awareness and support for individuals at risk of similar situations.
Law enforcement encourages those facing threats to seek assistance promptly and reminds the public of the resources available for domestic abuse victims. The woman’s ordeal underscores the potential danger of unchecked aggression and the necessity of taking threats seriously.
During her recovery, the woman is committed to rebuilding her life and hopes her story will inspire others to prioritize their safety. The local community has come together to offer support and help her through this challenging period.
