CLEVELAND, OH – Justice was served today in a Cleveland courtroom as Sandra Cyrunk received her sentence for the killing of her boyfriend, Charlie Willis Jr. The emotional proceedings concluded with Cyrunk being sentenced to a minimum of 15 years for the crime that rocked the community.
The tragic events of January 7 began with a domestic dispute at Willis’ apartment on East 81st Street, culminating in his death from multiple stab wounds. Witnesses reported the couple had been drinking, which escalated the situation.
Cyrunk’s initial murder charge was reduced to involuntary manslaughter, with additional charges for assault and evidence tampering. She expressed deep regret in court, addressing Willis’ grieving family.
Judge Malianne Murphy outlined the terms of Cyrunk’s sentence, which will run consecutively for manslaughter and assault. Having already served 219 days, Cyrunk will be transferred to the Ohio Women’s Reformatory in Marysville.
Willis’ family shared their sorrow and the impact on his daughter and grandchildren, hoping the sentence brings some solace.
