Birmingham, Alabama – A tragic motorcycle crash claimed the life of a pivotal witness in the capital murder case involving former University of Alabama basketball player Darius Miles and his close friend Michael Davis. Shu’bonte Tyler Greene, 24, was killed in the accident on Sunday in Birmingham, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
The fatal crash occurred on Ninth Street West at Third Avenue West at 8:13 p.m. Authorities reported that Greene, riding a motorcycle, was struck by a truck. He was rushed to UAB Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at 8:39 p.m.
Greene’s role in the ongoing murder case against Miles and Davis related to the tragic shooting death of Birmingham mother Jamea Jonae Harris. The gun allegedly used in the crime belonged to Miles, while Davis was said to have pulled the trigger. Greene, a close friend of Harris’s boyfriend Cedric Johnson, had been present on the fateful night of the shooting.
In a pivotal 2023 immunity hearing, Greene’s testimony was marked by a lack of cooperation. Initially absent from the proceedings, he eventually took the stand but provided minimal information. The defense claimed that someone had removed a shotgun from the trunk of a vehicle that night, implicating Greene as the driver of the car with an open trunk.
Despite his involvement that night, Greene maintained during his testimony that he was unaware of the trunk being open or what was retrieved from it. His unexpected passing has left a gap in the legal proceedings, raising questions about the impact on the case moving forward.
