Waterbury, Connecticut – Police in Waterbury have made a third arrest in connection with the stabbing death of a man on December 22. Markee Malloy, a 52-year-old resident of Waterbury, was taken into custody on Saturday, becoming the third suspect to be charged in the death of Jose Virola.
Investigators believe that a disturbance between Virola and a woman led to a fight with 33-year-old Sean Lawrence and 52-year-old Barry Mason, both of whom knew the female. Virola was fatally stabbed during the altercation and was later found dead on First Avenue, according to police.
Malloy now faces charges of murder, assault in the first degree, and conspiracy to commit assault in the first degree. In addition to these charges, police revealed that Malloy had an outstanding warrant for a parole violation. He is being held on a $3,050,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in court today.
Barry Mason was taken into custody on December 28 and has also been charged with murder, assault in the first degree, and conspiracy to commit assault in the first degree. Furthermore, he has multiple failure to appear warrants for unrelated incidents. Mason is being held on a $3 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 13, as per online court records.
Sean Lawrence, the first suspect to be taken into custody, was charged with murder, assault in the first degree, and conspiracy to commit assault in the first degree. He is being held on a $3 million bond and is due in court on February 21, according to online court records.
