East Orange, New Jersey – School officials in East Orange and local police are collaborating to investigate a violent attack near Patrick F. Healy Middle School on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in injuries to two girls. The incident, which occurred in the 90’s block of Hamilton Street shortly after school dismissal, has sparked concern among community members.
Reports from the parents of the girls suggest that as the students were walking on Park Avenue, a group of over a half dozen teenagers approached them and instigated the attack. The assailants forced the girls to the ground, physically assaulted them by punching and kicking, and even stole items from them before fleeing the scene, according to witnesses.
Both victims were rushed to Carewell Health Medical Center (East Orange General) for treatment. Medical personnel attended to their injuries, resulting in one of the victims being treated and released while the other remained hospitalized for further observation. Despite the severity of the attack, it is projected that both girls will make a full recovery.
