Violence Erupts at Ugandan Women’s Day Event: Police Seek Suspects After Attack on Musician Alien Skin

Iganga, Uganda – Police in Iganga District are actively searching for suspects after a violent incident targeted Alien Skin, a controversial Ugandan musician, during a local celebration. The event, delayed due to the International Women’s Day, took place on Sunday at Iganga Municipal Council Primary School and turned chaotic shortly after Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja addressed attendees.

The exact cause of the disturbance is unclear, with witnesses presenting varied accounts. Some suggest the conflict started when Alien Skin allegedly made disparaging comments about Bobi Wine, another well-known musician, potentially provoking Wine’s supporters. Others believe tensions rose after Alien Skin’s security team forcefully handled a fan trying to climb onto the stage, leaving the individual visibly injured.

According to SP Michael Kafayo, the spokesperson for Busoga East Police, the situation escalated when “a visibly enthusiastic fan” bypassed security to join Alien Skin on stage. The aggressive intervention by the singer’s private security fueled anger among parts of the crowd, culminating in some throwing stones at the stage.

The disorder did not end at the venue. Alien Skin was hurriedly escorted to his vehicle by his security team as the crowd continued to show their displeasure, this time targeting his car with stones, severely damaging it.

“We are committed to pursuing this case, identifying the assailants involved in the attack, and understanding their motives,” SP Kafayo remarked during a press briefing on Monday. He labeled the attackers as “rowdy and dangerous,” highlighting the severity of the incident.

This is not the first time Alien Skin has been in the limelight for reasons other than his music. Previously, he gained unexpected sympathy and notoriety following an altercation with fellow artist Pallaso, who slapped him during a public dispute. Additionally, there was a report of a violent confrontation involving his team at Nsambya Hospital, which led to injuries among medical staff.

Earlier this year, Alien Skin and Pallaso were involved in yet another conflict that resulted in significant damage to Alien Skin’s vehicles.

Despite these controversies, Alien Skin’s popularity continues to soar, with a growing fan base and significant musical influence. However, the recurrent violence at his performances casts a shadow over his career and sparks ongoing concerns regarding safety at public events involving high-profile figures like him. As authorities work to maintain order and safety, the challenge remains in balancing vibrant public expressions with security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
