ST. GABRIEL, La. — Local residents are reeling after the discovery of more than 30 neglected dogs at the St. Gabriel Animal Hospital, prompting swift action from animal rescue officials. Reports emerged on social media highlighting the alarming conditions, leading to a rapid response by law enforcement and rescue organizations.
Upon investigation, authorities uncovered dogs that appeared severely malnourished and were exhibiting signs of distress. Many animals were reported to be in poor health, leaving the rescuers visibly shaken by the neglect they encountered. “These dogs have been relying on one another for comfort, but they clearly don’t trust humans,” said Alex Dondeville, a volunteer involved in the rescue effort. He noted the animals had been deprived of proper care and companionship.
The hospital’s owner, Dr. Gary Sod, has yet to comment on the situation as attempts to reach him have been unsuccessful. Meanwhile, the rescued dogs are under the care of local animal advocates, including Alex, Rebeckah, and Courtney, who worked quickly to secure their safety. “The conditions were horrific,” said Courtney Turner of the Licking for Love rescue group. “The smell was overwhelming, and there were disturbing signs of neglect throughout the facility.”
The distressing conditions included blood-stained surgical instruments and narcotic drugs left unsecured, alarming the rescue crew. Tragically, some dogs were discovered deceased, while others were found in a freezer. St. Gabriel Police Chief Kevin Ambeau confirmed that he has not yet had a conversation with Dr. Sod regarding the ongoing investigation.
Representatives from the rescue groups emphasized the need for immediate action and collaboration. “We all came together to focus on one goal: the well-being of these dogs,” said one rescue representative, thanking those who offered support during the crisis. “It wasn’t about dividing them up; it was about how we could ensure they received the care they desperately need.”
