Scarborough, U.K.— A night out turned tragic for a woman in her 50s who was brutally assaulted by three sisters and their friend in Scarborough, resulting in severe injuries that have permanently impacted her life. The violent encounter, which took place in the early hours of October 28, 2023, has led to significant criminal sentences for the involved perpetrators, as detailed in recent court proceedings.
The assault was specifically horrifying due to its unprovoked nature and the extreme violence meted out by the attackers identified as Toni Lee Patterson, 32, Ellie Patterson, 20, Abbie Patterson, 19, and Tonia Louise Stott, 35. The four women were reportedly refused entry to a local bar before they encountered the victim, who had just bought food from a nearby takeaway.
As per reports, the victim was viciously attacked on St Thomas Street where she was punched, kicked, and left unconscious on the pavement. Witnesses described the attackers as relentless, even as the victim was lying defenseless on the ground.
During the court session at York Crown Court, it was revealed that Ellie Patterson initiated the assault by hitting and dragging the victim across the pavement. The situation escalated as Toni Patterson joined in, further assaulting the victim by dragging her towards the road, stamping on her head, and kicking her in the face. Abbie Patterson and Tonia Stott also partook in the violence, with Stott later joining the fray and exacerbating the situation by pushing bystanders and attacking the victim further.
The aftermath of the assault was grave, with the victim taken to hospital due to a facial fracture and a brain bleed. Tragically, the woman, who was already partially sighted, suffered additional vision loss and now faces significant challenges in her daily life, relying heavily on family support for basic tasks.
During the trial, the defendants pleaded guilty to affray, with Toni and Ellie Patterson additionally admitting to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Meanwhile, Abbie Patterson faced a lighter sentence—four months in a young offenders’ institute, suspended for 18 months, including rehabilitation activities and unpaid work. Tonia Stott was sentenced to one year in prison for her role in the assault.
