Two Crashes Rock Norristown Intersection Within Six Hours

NORRISTOWN, PA – In a span of just a few hours, a notorious intersection in Norristown became the scene of two separate car accidents, leaving one person dead and two others injured. The intersection at DeKalb Street and East Basin Street has long been a concern for locals due to its history of accidents.

The first incident took place in the late morning when a family of three was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross East Basin Street. The impact tragically claimed the life of a man and sent a woman and a child to the hospital.

Angela Disanto, who lives nearby, captured the aftermath on her phone. “It was heartbreaking, especially hearing the child’s cries,” she said, describing the scene.

Six hours later, another accident occurred at the same spot, involving a car on DeKalb Street and another vehicle trying to navigate onto the same road. Residents, still reeling from the morning’s tragedy, rushed to assist those involved.

Leroy Bonaparte, whose niece was in the second crash, was thankful there were no serious injuries but shared his concerns about the intersection. “It’s a dangerous place. Something needs to change,” he noted.

Despite a traffic light located nearby, issues like speeding and obstructed views due to parked cars have contributed to the intersection’s perilous reputation. Residents have been vocal about the need for improved safety measures.

The Norristown police are investigating both crashes. At this point, they have not determined if any charges will be filed. The day’s events have intensified calls from the community for action to prevent future incidents.

As the investigation continues, the community grapples with the tragic loss and hopes for measures to enhance safety at the intersection.
