Twins Sentenced to Four Years for Brutal Assault Captured on CCTV

Stockton, England — Two twins have been sentenced to four years in prison for their roles in a violent assault that left a man unconscious. The incident gained notoriety after it was captured on surveillance cameras outside a residence on Hartington Road.

Leon and Lewis Bayat, both 20 years old, were involved in the brutal attack on April 7. Prosecutor Cainan Lonsdale detailed how Leon initiated the violence by striking the victim with a pole, knocking him to the ground. After leaving the man vulnerable, Leon continued the assault by kicking him repeatedly in the head before jumping on him.

Shortly after the assault began, Lewis Bayat emerged from their residence to assist in the attack, joining his brother as they relentlessly pummeled the victim. Lonsdale described the sequence of violence as particularly vicious, noting that the brothers kicked, punched, and even stamped on the man while he lay defenseless on the pavement.

Following the attack, the Bayats attempted to evade capture by changing their clothing. However, they were apprehended nearby shortly after the incident. The victim, whose injuries were deemed serious enough to warrant concern, did not cooperate with law enforcement and chose not to provide a victim impact statement.

At the time of this incident, both Leon and Lewis were already under a community order stemming from a previous assault on a police officer. Their legal representative, Jennifer Coxon, spoke to the twins’ troubled backgrounds, mentioning that Leon had experienced a difficult upbringing and had spent significant time in the care system. Both twins reportedly share a close bond that impacts their behavior.

Lewis Bayat’s attorney, Michele Turner, emphasized his client’s youth at the time of the attack, noting that he had just turned 20 while in custody. Recorder Andrew Sutcliffe KC, who presided over the case, expressed grave concern over the severity of the assault. He confirmed that footage from the incident clearly showed the twins participated in a serious act of violence, causing notable injuries to the victim’s head and other body parts.

This ruling highlights the growing concern over violent behavior among young individuals and the need for effective interventions within the community. The Bayats’ case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of unchecked aggression and the importance of protecting vulnerable members of society.
