Train Terror: Drunken Passengers’ Bottle Assault Leaves Two Injured, Attacker Convicted of Attempted Murder

Glasgow, Scotland — In a shocking incident aboard a ScotRail train, a man has been convicted of attempted murder following a violent altercation that left two passengers severely injured. Thomas Craig, 48, of East Renfrewshire, was found guilty of the attack, which occurred in February of the previous year, during a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

The brutal nature of Craig’s actions was captured on CCTV footage, which the British Transport Police have since released. Prosecutors established that the incident began after Craig, intoxicated, initiated conversation with other passengers. Tensions flared quickly when he directed a verbal insult at a fellow traveler. Within moments, the situation escalated dramatically as he struck his first victim over the head with a bottle multiple times.

The assault spiraled out of control as the initial victim attempted to flee, only to be pursued by Craig, who continued the attack until the bottle shattered. Craig then wielded the jagged remains as a weapon, inflicting serious injuries on another passenger who attempted to intervene. That victim sustained life-threatening injuries, including a stab wound near his heart, and required urgent medical attention.

Witnesses aboard the train were left in a state of panic as the confrontation unfolded. Craig, after inflicting his injuries, reportedly composed himself to some degree by changing out of his blood-stained clothing before fleeing the scene with one of the victim’s phones.

Police and paramedics met the train at Larbert station shortly afterward, providing critical medical assistance to the injured passengers. Their prompt response was credited with potentially saving lives by addressing the victims’ severe injuries.

Detective Inspector Marc Francey of the British Transport Police called Craig’s behavior “despicable,” emphasizing the reckless and violent nature of the assault. Francey further noted that the attack not only endangered the two men involved but also caused distress among numerous passengers on the train.

As Craig awaits sentencing, scheduled for January 12, the severity of the attack raises important questions about safety on public transport. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential for violence in seemingly ordinary situations, highlighting the need for vigilance on shared transit systems.
