Tragic Turn in Rehoboth: Man Charged with Murder After Pregnant Girlfriend’s Remains Discovered

Rehoboth, Mass. — A 22-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his pregnant girlfriend, whose remains were found on his family’s property. Gregory Groom was arraigned in Taunton District Court on Wednesday in connection with the death of 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro, who was 11 weeks pregnant at the time of her disappearance.

Monteiro was last seen earlier this month, prompting concerns from her family. They reported her fears for her safety just days before she went missing. On Tuesday, investigators discovered her remains buried on Groom’s property, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding her death.

Throughout the court proceedings, emotional statements were made by family and friends grappling with the loss. A family friend described Monteiro as loving and caring, highlighting the deep impact her absence has had on those who knew her. Her sister expressed unbearable grief over losing her sibling and the opportunity to say goodbye.

Investigators revealed that Groom initially contacted police on August 8 to report Monteiro missing, claiming she had left after an argument while visiting his home. However, prosecutors cited evidence that suggested a troubling pattern of violence. They reported Groom’s admission to police of having pushed Monteiro during an altercation on August 6, resulting in her falling and striking her head.

Audio messages sent by Monteiro to her sister revealed alarming details about prior incidents of abuse. She described a physical confrontation where she accused Groom of throwing her to the ground and strangling her, stating, “My phone’s at 4 percent if I die, it was Greg.”

As the investigation unfolded, police informed Groom that they would search his property. He subsequently confessed to stabbing Monteiro multiple times with a kitchen knife during an argument. He also led investigators to the location where he buried her body, approximately 20 yards from a shed where the incident allegedly occurred.

Groom has pleaded not guilty to the charges and has been ordered to remain in custody without bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 10, as the case continues to develop. The community grieves the loss of a young life filled with promise, as authorities work to uncover the full details surrounding this tragic incident.
