Rehoboth, Mass. — A 22-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his pregnant girlfriend, whose remains were found on his family’s property. Gregory Groom was arraigned in Taunton District Court on Wednesday in connection with the death of 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro, who was 11 weeks pregnant at the time of her disappearance.
Monteiro was last seen earlier this month, prompting concerns from her family. They reported her fears for her safety just days before she went missing. On Tuesday, investigators discovered her remains buried on Groom’s property, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding her death.
Throughout the court proceedings, emotional statements were made by family and friends grappling with the loss. As the investigation unfolded, police informed Groom that they would search his property. He subsequently confessed to stabbing Monteiro multiple times with a kitchen knife during an argument. He also led investigators to the location where he buried her body, approximately 20 yards from a shed where the incident allegedly occurred.
Groom has pleaded not guilty to the charges and has been ordered to remain in custody without bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 10, as the case continues to develop.
