LOGAN COUNTY, Okla. — A 16-year-old boy is facing serious charges, including first-degree murder, in the death of his adoptive mother, whose body was discovered in a trash can outside their home. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation reported that Spring Weems, 49, was found after concerned relatives requested a welfare check when they failed to hear from her.
Authorities began their investigation when deputies found two teenage boys, both living with Weems, at the residence. After questioning them, deputies realized that Weems was missing and initiated a search of the property. They ultimately located her body in the trash can on the street side. Officials noted that her injuries indicated a homicide had occurred.
“This is a tragic case of violence that resulted in the loss of life in an extremely brutal manner,” said Hunter McKee, a spokesperson for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. He emphasized the emotional toll of such incidents, stating that no one deserves to die in such a horrific way.
The victim’s adopted son, Jordan Cole Weems, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including first-degree murder, desecration of a corpse, and improper removal of a body. Court documents reveal that his arrest followed alarming behavioral issues leading up to the fatal incident.
In the days prior to the murder, it was reported that Jordan and another adopted son had been engaging in rebellious behavior, attempting to evade law enforcement. The boys were subjected to disciplinary measures at home, which included writing apology letters and wearing an orange jumpsuit meant to mimic a prison environment. Such measures underscored the family’s attempts to manage troubling conduct.
Significantly, the affidavit states that Jordan had made threats against his mother, voicing intentions to kill her before the tragic event occurred. Following his arrest, he allegedly confessed to the crime, claiming he struck Weems multiple times with a hammer.
