More than 24 hours of relentless downpours have resulted in significant waterlogging and damage across the northern state, with Dausa recording the most substantial rainfall, measuring 29 centimeters by Sunday morning.
In a heart-wrenching incident in Jhalawar district, four people—two of whom were teachers—were swept away while attempting to navigate a submerged low bridge near Gagron Fort. Witnesses reported that despite warnings from locals about the dangerous conditions, the group attempted to cross the bridge around 2 p.m. After a three-hour search, authorities located their vehicle approximately 10 to 15 meters downstream, submerged in deep water. The bodies of two passengers, identified as Neeraj Singh Shekhawat, 49, and Hari Ballabh Khati, 60, were recovered, while two others remain missing and are feared to have perished.
Additionally, four minors tragically drowned in Udaipur when they ventured into a water-filled mine. The boys—aged 12 to 14—had gone to graze goats near Kuwari Mines but slipped into deep water while attempting to swim. Local authorities, along with community members, worked together to recover their bodies. Families are now calling for accountability from the mine owner, expressing concerns over safety precautions.
As heavy rains continue to plague the region, the historic city of Jaipur has experienced severe waterlogging, leading to knee-deep flooding on roads and widespread traffic disruptions. In response to the adverse weather, the District Collector ordered the closure of government and private schools on Monday and Tuesday, ensuring the safety of students amid these hazardous conditions.
Residents in several neighborhoods reported power outages due to damage to transformers and power lines, with utility teams working overnight to restore electricity. The Jaipur Development Authority also announced the temporary closure of public parks affected by flooding, further emphasizing the storm’s impact.
