Coral Gables, Florida – Authorities are currently investigating a tragic domestic-related shooting incident that claimed the lives of a man and a woman in Coral Gables. Additionally, the woman’s son was hospitalized as a result of the incident, which unfolded Thursday morning at an apartment complex on Granello Avenue.
Upon receiving reports of a shooting at the location, Coral Gables Police promptly responded to the scene. It was there that they discovered the bodies of a man and a woman who had been fatally shot. The woman’s 20-year-old son was also found wounded and subsequently rushed to Jackson South Hospital for surgery. Thankfully, he was reported to be in stable condition following the procedure.
Authorities have identified the deceased 61-year-old man as the suspected shooter in the incident. He was in a domestic partnership with the 41-year-old woman who was also tragically killed. Furthermore, it was revealed that the hospitalized 20-year-old is the son of the woman.
Aerial footage from Chopper 6 captured the significant police presence at the scene, with officers cordoning off the area around the intersection. Police have categorically stated that the incident was isolated and domestic-related, emphasizing that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
During a subsequent press conference, Miami-Dade Police Det. Andre Martin characterized the event as “a tragic incident,” extending condolences to those affected. He urged individuals facing potentially violent domestic situations to seek help and resources before situations escalate.
The complex where the shooting occurred is home to various living facilities, including a senior living center and an apartment complex known as Gables Ponce. Residents expressed shock and sadness over the incident, with one remarking on the availability of help amidst desperate situations.
Despite the proximity to Coral Gables High School, which briefly went on lockdown as a precaution, officials confirmed that the incident had no link to the school. As the investigation continues, updates on the case will be shared as they develop.
