Tragic Shooting at Kennesaw State University Leaves Student Dead and Suspect Arrested

Kennesaw, Georgia – A tragic shooting incident occurred on the campus of Kennesaw State University, claiming the life of a student. The university confirmed the student’s death on Campus Loop Road and the arrest of the suspected shooter. Both the name of the student and the suspect have not been disclosed by KSU authorities.

The deadly gunfire erupted just feet away from where students, like Robert Bowns, were studying. Bowns recounted hearing several shots before receiving an alert about an armed intruder on campus. The swift response from campus authorities led to an immediate warning at 4:07 p.m., advising individuals to stay indoors, secure doors, and windows.

After nearly 36 minutes, KSU Emergency Management declared the area safe at 4:43 p.m., although police continued to maintain a closure on Campus Loop Road near the Austin Resident Complex for an extended period. The arrival of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation further assisted in collecting evidence related to the tragic event.

By 8:00 p.m., KSU officially announced the death of the student and the apprehension of the suspected shooter. The incident has left the community in shock and disbelief, with many expressing concerns over the safety measures on campus. This unfortunate incident marks the second lockdown due to an armed intruder at KSU in the same year.

In January, students and staff were compelled to take shelter for hours following reports of an armed individual on campus. Authorities revealed that multiple suspects fled to the university campus following a carjacking incident in DeKalb County. The continuous involvement of law enforcement agencies reinforces the seriousness of the situation and the ongoing investigations.
