Catonsville, Md. – In a tragic incident on Thursday afternoon, authorities discovered three deceased individuals in a home, believed to be the result of a murder-suicide. Baltimore County police responded to a welfare check around 3:30 p.m. on Wilton Farm Drive, where they found a woman and her young daughter suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
The victims have been identified as 42-year-old Chantel Sharieff and her 6-year-old daughter, Kimana Sharieff. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect, 43-year-old Mustafa Sharieff, was also found in the residence with self-inflicted injuries and was declared dead shortly thereafter.
While investigators have not disclosed a motive for the incident, neighbors have expressed shock at the violence that unfolded in what is typically considered a quiet area. Local resident John Sherikjian, who had recently moved to the neighborhood, described arriving home to find police cars surrounding the street. “It was pretty shocking happening across the street, just moving in now,” he said.
Another neighbor, Tony Vithayathil, noted that he was aware of tensions in the household. He mentioned hearing frequent arguments from the home, though he had never heard gunfire. “I heard that she wasn’t coming to work, so they called and texted and got no reaction,” Vithayathil explained, recounting how the concern led someone to visit the home, ultimately prompting a call to police.
As the investigation continues, authorities are reaching out to the community for information. Police have encouraged anyone with knowledge of the situation to contact the Baltimore County Police Department. In the wake of the tragedy, residents remain unsettled, grappling with the violent loss that has shaken their neighborhood.
The incident underscores the growing concerns surrounding mental health and domestic violence, issues that often remain hidden until tragedies like this one occur. Community leaders are urging the public to remain vigilant and to seek help for those in distress. As the investigation unfolds, the Catonsville community mourns the loss and reflects on the impact of such devastating events.
