Sayreville, New Jersey – Manuel Rivera faces multiple charges, including second-degree aggravated arson and first-degree murder, in connection with a tragic incident that took place on March 28. The Middlesex County Prosecutor, Yolanda Ciccone, announced the charges against Rivera, who was employed by the Sayreville School District where his son was a student.
According to Sayreville Schools Superintendent Richard Labbe, the incident unfolded after Rivera left a home on Eisenhower Drive with his son. Shortly after their departure, firefighters were alerted to a fire near Sayreville High School, where they discovered Rivera injured and a vehicle ablaze. Tragically, inside the vehicle, they found the body of a child.
Authorities revealed that the initial call to Eisenhower Drive stemmed from a domestic dispute involving Rivera and a female. Rivera was located with severe burn injuries and a self-inflicted wound, and he was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in critical condition.
