Fresno, Calif. — A tragic incident occurred in southeast Fresno on Monday evening, involving a violent attack at a local residence that led to one fatality and multiple injuries including the perpetrator himself.
Authorities reported that the confrontation commenced shortly after 6 p.m. at a home located at the intersection of Balch and Callisch avenues. A man and a woman had arrived at the residence, the home of the woman’s former boyfriend, to drop off personal items. It was during this visit that the former boyfriend allegedly escalated the situation by attacking the visitors with a shovel.
Police detailed that a neighbor, upon witnessing the assault, intervened to halt the aggressor’s violent spree. Despite this intervention, the chaos resulted in severe consequences. Both victims required immediate medical attention; however, the male victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. His identity has yet to be released pending notification of next of kin.
Following the attack, the suspect inflicted a self-harm injury. Authorities found him with a cut on his arm after he had retreated back into his home. He was subsequently hospitalized for his injuries, and officials noted that he is expected to survive, as is the female victim who also sustained injuries during the incident.
The Fresno Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances that led to the deadly altercation, striving to understand the underlying motives and sequence of events.
