Oswego, Illinois – A tragic house explosion and subsequent fire claimed the lives of two individuals Thursday evening. Emergency responders were dispatched to a residence on Fox Chase Drive North shortly after 5 p.m. following a report that an explosion had occurred and that occupants were trapped inside.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the two-story home fully engulfed in flames and had already partially collapsed. Crews quickly moved to extinguish the fire, but officials noted that a gas line continued to burn, complicating their efforts. Utility company NICOR intervened, successfully clamping off the gas supply, which enabled firefighters to fully bring the blaze under control.
Once the fire was quelled, responders conducted a thorough search of the debris and tragically discovered two bodies within the wreckage. The Kendall County Coroner’s Office is now leading the investigation into the identities of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
Investigators are working alongside the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to determine the cause of the explosion and fire. As of now, no definitive answers have emerged, and officials have not released the names of the victims.
