Douglas County Sheriff’s Office identified the woman as 44-year-old Nicole Eaton and her husband, 52-year-old Ben Eaton Jr., who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The episode began late Thursday when local authorities received a distress call at 8:52 p.m. from a woman reporting difficulties in breathing. According to Sheriff Armbrister, the officer quickly made telephonic contact with Ben Eaton, who appeared to have barricaded himself within the property. Over the course of the standoff which lasted into the next day, Ben Eaton allegedly exhibited aggressive behavior and threatened law enforcement officers, necessitating the deployment of robots and drones for surveillance and to safely assess the situation inside the home.
By Friday afternoon, through the technologies deployed, officials confirmed that Nicole Eaton was deceased. Following this development, law enforcement continued their engagement with Ben Eaton until the standoff concluded with the discovery of his body.
