Orange County, Fla. – A tragic incident has unfolded involving an 18-year-old woman, Zoe Cooper, charged with the second-degree murder of Tadarius Massey, her 19-year-old estranged boyfriend, following an altercation at her residence in west Orange County.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the altercation in August stemmed from a heated argument over Massey’s refusal to let Cooper access his cellphone. This dispute escalated, culminating in Massey sustaining multiple stab wounds.
Following the incident, Cooper reportedly drove the injured Massey to a local hospital in Ocoee and left him at the entrance while she returned home. Hospital staff, assisted by Massey’s friends, quickly intervened, rushing him inside for urgent care.
In a remorseful expression of grief, Cooper later posted on social media a photo of the couple along with a message stating her regret and lasting love for Massey. The post read: “If I could take it back or trade place in a heartbeat, I would. I love you always. I’m truly sorry for what I did. It wasn’t supposed to be this way.”
Despite efforts to save him, Massey was pronounced dead at the hospital. The autopsy report showed a fatal stab wound to his heart, a secondary wound near his left shoulder that struck bone, and evidence of two older, healed stab wounds in the same area.
Further insight into the troubled relationship was provided by Massey’s employer, who described him as often appearing physically battered at work. The employer recounted incidents when Cooper would allegedly physically assault Massey and also instances where she would silently observe him at his workplace, adding to an environment of tension and fear.
School records and investigative findings from Ocoee High School revealed another disturbing encounter where Cooper attacked Massey over a similar dispute about his cellphone. Communication records between the two showed a history of threatening messages where Cooper expressed lethal intentions towards Massey.
As the investigation continues, the community and Massey’s grieving family are left to wrestle with the devastating loss. Massey’s mother, mourning the loss of her only child, shared that the family is deeply affected and continues to seek solace amid the unfolding events.
