Amethi, India – A man accused of murder was discovered dead in a field close to his home in Amethi, raising suspicions of suicide amid fears of impending arrest, police reported on Saturday. The decease, found with a bottle of poison nearby, was identified as Monu Pasi, a prime suspect in the high-profile murder case of the local village head’s brother.
Monu Pasi, a resident of Ramnathpur village under the jurisdiction of Amethi police station, had been the subject of an intense search operation by local police following the brutal killing of Ajai Singh last June. Ajai, the brother of village head Vijay Singh, was reportedly assaulted with rods and canes by a group of individuals while returning home near Benipur village. Despite immediate medical treatment, Ajai succumbed to his injuries, sparking a major investigation.
Following the attack, Vijay Singh filed a murder complaint under IPC section 302 against Monu Pasi and other unidentified assailants, placing Pasi as the central figure in the case. Since the filing, Pasi had vanished from his residence, eluding law enforcement efforts for more than a week.
The discovery of Pasi’s body was made after locals spotted him lying lifeless with froth at the mouth, approximately 200 meters from his dwelling. Amar Singh, the inspector in charge of the Amethi police station, confirmed that a post-mortem would be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death, though initial assessments suggest suicide by poisoning.
Authorities have yet to determine a definitive motive for the suspected suicide, but the fear of arrest is a prevailing theory among investigators. As the probe continues, police are keen on uncovering further details surrounding both the initial murder and Pasi’s subsequent death to piece together the sequence of events that led to this tragic outcome.
The incident has stirred considerable attention in the community, highlighting ongoing issues of crime and law enforcement responsiveness in rural areas. Local governance representatives have called for calm and patience as authorities work through their investigation, ensuring that both justice for the Singh family and clarity on Pasi’s death are adequately served.
Further reports from officials are awaited as the community grapples with the aftermath of these linked tragedies. The police commitment to a transparent investigation has been emphasized, with updates promised as new information becomes available.
