Piedmont, Alabama — A tragic accident at Indian Mountain ATV Park left two adults dead and seven children injured following a collision of two all-terrain vehicles on Saturday afternoon, August 30. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident on its social media page, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.
Shortly after 3:45 PM, Cherokee County 911 began receiving calls about a serious accident at the park. According to Shawn Rogers, the director of the county’s Emergency Management Agency, one ATV with nine occupants collided with another carrying two individuals. The impact caused the larger vehicle to overturn and strike a tree, leading to devastating consequences.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene to find one adult already deceased, with another adult female and three children quickly transported to trauma centers in Birmingham. Tragically, the female victim later succumbed to her injuries. Four additional children were taken to Atrium-Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia, for urgent treatment. The injured children, aged between 1 and 12, were reportedly all safe but in need of care.
Authorities confirmed that both adults who died were residents of Rome, Georgia, but refrained from releasing their names to protect the families involved during this sensitive time. Sheriff Shaver emphasized the importance of safe operation of recreational vehicles, reminding the public to adhere to safety guidelines, including wearing restraint systems and not exceeding the vehicle’s passenger capacity.
