Hanover, Ind. — A Butler County man is facing murder charges in connection with the death of a mother from Indiana, who was found fatally stabbed earlier this month. Officials allege that the suspect attempted to mislead investigators through the creation of a fake social media profile.
Marsha Robertson described her sister, Wilma, as her “hero” and “best friend,” recalling their close bond. The painful reality of Wilma’s disappearance set in when she failed to report to work on April 14. After Marsha received troubling news from a family member, authorities conducted a welfare check and discovered Wilma’s body at her home in Hanover.
The Jefferson County prosecutor confirmed that Wilma died from multiple stab wounds, leaving her family devastated. “She loved her children more than anything,” Marsha said. “Her kids were her world.”
Just a day after the murder, police arrested a man from Louisville, initially charging him with Wilma’s death. However, a subsequent investigation revealed that 25-year-old Nigel Thomas, an Oxford resident and Wilma’s former boyfriend, framed the man by creating social media accounts in his name. Thomas allegedly sent messages to Wilma’s family, confessing to the crime under the guise of the wrongfully accused suspect. DNA evidence ultimately excluded him from the case, leading to his release.
Following his arrest, Thomas was charged with Wilma’s murder. Family members expressed their shock and grief, mourning the loss of a woman they described as joyful and full of life. “She was always in a good mood,” said Kimberly Danner, Wilma’s cousin.
Marsha is left grappling with the motive behind such a senseless act. “I just can’t understand how anyone could do this. My sister was one of the kindest people you could meet,” she reflected. The family is currently raising funds to honor Wilma’s memory during this trying time.
As investigators delve further into the case, the community mourns a life cut short, and Wilma’s legacy as a loving mother continues to resonate among those who knew her.
