BOSTON — A disturbing incident in Roxbury left a pregnant woman with grave concerns for her unborn child after an alleged attack by a man from Randolph. According to Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden, the 23-year-old victim was violently assaulted on the evening of April 29, raising serious alarms about her health and that of her baby.
Dana Young, 33, faces multiple charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault on a pregnant woman, and violations stemming from a restraining order. Following this arrest, a judge revoked Young’s bail from a previous case, ensuring he will remain in custody for at least the next 60 days.
Hayden reported that this was not an isolated incident but rather a targeted attack. The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement officials have not ruled out the possibility of additional charges as more details emerge.
The victim recounted the harrowing events to police, stating that she was walking along Winthrop Street after disembarking from an MBTA bus when she was approached from behind. Young allegedly slapped her in the head, causing her to fall to the ground. Following this, he reportedly kicked her multiple times in the stomach before fleeing the scene toward Blue Hill Avenue.
At the time of the assault, the woman was 17 weeks pregnant. Although she declined medical assistance immediately after the attack, her concerns for her health and that of her child prompted her to seek care the following day at Tufts Medical Center. Medical professionals informed her that due to the injuries sustained during the attack, she would not be able to carry the baby to full term, and there are fears that the child may suffer brain damage.
Young is scheduled to appear in court on June 3 for a pretrial hearing, as attention turns to the welfare of the victim and the potential legal consequences for the accused. The community remains shaken by the incident, highlighting the ongoing issues surrounding domestic violence and the need for awareness.
