SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A tragic incident in the Foothill Farms area of Sacramento County resulted in the death of a 10-year-old boy after another 10-year-old boy took a stolen gun from his father’s car and used it to fatally shoot him. The shooting occurred in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Greenholme Drive on Saturday afternoon, leading to the victim’s death at the hospital despite efforts to save him.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the young shooter had retrieved the gun from his father’s vehicle and then proceeded to boast about it before firing at the other 10-year-old. The shooter then fled into a nearby apartment, while investigators later found the stolen firearm discarded in a nearby trashcan. It was also discovered that the shooter’s father, Arkete Davis, was legally prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm.
As a result of the tragic incident, the suspected 10-year-old shooter was taken into custody and faces a murder charge, while Davis was booked on various firearm-related charges, child endangerment, and for being an accessory after the fact. The sheriff’s office stated that Davis attempted to get rid of the stolen gun after the shooting occurred.
Sacramento County Sheriff Jim Cooper expressed his deep concern about the irresponsible parenting and the illegal possession of a firearm by a prohibited individual that led to the young boy’s murder. He emphasized the need to address the issue of illegally possessing guns by those who should not have them and using them to commit violent crimes.
The heartbreaking nature of this incident underscores the importance of addressing and preventing the illegal possession and misuse of firearms. It serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences that can result from such actions, especially when they involve innocent and vulnerable individuals. The details of the incident and the subsequent arrest and charges filed emphasize the urgency of addressing firearm-related issues to prevent such tragedies in the future.
