Tiffin, Ohio — Tragedy struck a quiet community Wednesday evening as four individuals, including two young children, lost their lives in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide. Law enforcement received reports of gunfire at a residence on Huss Street around 6:30 p.m. and arrived to discover a deadly scene.
Upon arrival, officers found a 42-year-old man, Ryan Eagon, with a fatal gunshot wound in the driveway. Inside the home, they discovered Eagon’s two children, ages 7 months and 7 years, both critically injured. Despite efforts to save them, they succumbed to their injuries shortly after at local hospitals. A family friend, 29-year-old Dustin Willey, was also found wounded and later died from his injuries.
Investigators say the incident began during a visit by the children’s mother, who was attempting to retrieve belongings from the home amidst ongoing domestic issues. She had arranged for Willey to assist her while Eagon was reportedly out of town. Witnesses indicated that the two children were outside when chaos erupted; the oldest child heard screaming led to a confrontation that escalated tragically.
As the adults were inside the house, Eagon allegedly pursued Willey outside after firing multiple shots. He ultimately turned the weapon on his own children before taking his own life. The entire event unfolded within moments, leaving a community grappling with the aftermath of the violence.
Tiffin Police Chief David Pauly expressed his condolences, emphasizing the profound shock felt by residents. The community, known for its tight-knit nature, is mourning the unimaginable loss and is encouraged to keep the victims’ families in their thoughts. Mayor Lee Wilkinson echoed these sentiments, acknowledging the deep impact the incident has had on Tiffin.
Authorities have not released the identity of the children’s mother, stating that it is essential to respect her privacy during this harrowing time. Investigators are expected to provide more information as their inquiry into the events continues.
The circumstances of this incident have highlighted ongoing concerns about domestic violence and its consequences on families and communities. As Tiffin residents begin to process the horror of what occurred, community support and resources are likely to play a crucial role in the days to come.
