Tragedy Strikes Rautahat Distillery: Boiler Explosion Claims Worker’s Life, Leaves Others Critically Injured

Katahariya, Nepal — A tragic explosion at Jyoti Distillery early Saturday morning resulted in the death of one worker and left six others injured, three of whom are in critical condition. The incident underscores ongoing safety concerns in industrial facilities across the region.

Authorities reported that the explosion was caused by a boiler, a device essential for heating fuel or water, which malfunctioned during operations. The deceased, identified as Laxman Yadav, 45, was working alongside seven other employees when the incident occurred. The impact of the blast was so severe that it reportedly hurled Yadav across the road, highlighting the explosion’s ferocity.

District Police Chief Superintendent Rabin Karki confirmed the details of the event and stated that an investigation is underway. A team, including a deputy superintendent, has been dispatched to assess the situation at the distillery. Karki noted that “there has been one death and several injuries resulting from the explosion,” emphasizing the ongoing efforts to understand the circumstances that led to this disaster.

Among those injured are Rahmod Alam, Pramjit Yadav, Jagdish Yadav, Bignan Yadav, and Mukesh Yadav, all of whom were on-site at the time of the blast. Medical personnel described the condition of Jagdish, Bignan, and Mukesh as serious due to burns sustained during the explosion. An additional worker, Kailash Mali, also suffered injuries but is currently in stable condition.

Emergency responders provided immediate care before transporting the injured to a medical facility in Birgunj for further treatment. Authorities are preparing to transfer the burn victims to Kathmandu, where they can receive specialized care for their injuries.

The cause of the explosion remains undetermined, and police have expanded their investigation by involving teams from nearby areas. Authorities are taking this incident seriously, given the implications it may have for workplace safety regulations in industrial sectors like distillation.

The community has been left shaken by the sudden incident, prompting renewed discussions about safety protocols and fire prevention measures in local businesses. As investigations continue, families and friends of the workers affected are left grappling with the aftermath of such a devastating event.
