Piedmont, Alabama — A tragic accident at Indian Mountain ATV Park on Saturday left two adults dead and injured seven children, marking a devastating day for the local community.
Around 3:45 p.m. local time, two utility task vehicles (UTVs) collided on a trail within the park, as confirmed by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicles reportedly carried a total of 11 individuals, with nine in one UTV and two in the other.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene, where one adult was pronounced dead at the site of the crash. The second adult suffered severe injuries and later died after being airlifted to a local hospital. The sheriff’s office reported that the children involved, aged between 1 and 12 years, were also taken to hospitals for treatment. Three of the young victims were airlifted, while the other four were transported by ground ambulance.
Cherokee County Coroner Paul McDonald expressed his condolences, stating, “Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost their loved ones and with those who were injured.” He urged the community to support both the families affected and the first responders involved in the incident.
In the aftermath of the crash, reports indicated that the UTV carrying the larger group traveled approximately 150 feet before rolling over and colliding with a tree. Thankfully, the two individuals in the second UTV were unharmed.
Authorities have yet to release the identities of the deceased, though preliminary reports suggested that they may have been married. The Cherokee County Coroner’s Office did not respond to inquiries seeking further details.
Indian Mountain ATV Park, situated in the Appalachian Mountain range, encompasses 4,700 acres of off-road trails, camping areas, and recreational features such as fishing and hiking. The park has long been a popular destination for adventure seekers in the region.
