Oryol, Russia — A devastating explosion on railway tracks in Oryol Oblast resulted in the death of two officers from the Rosgvardia, the nation’s National Guard, and left another in critical condition. Regional Governor Andrey Klychkov confirmed the incident, which occurred on September 13, during an inspection of the railway route.
Authorities discovered several explosive devices embedded in the tracks, and one of those detonated, claiming the lives of two officers and seriously harming a third, according to Klychkov’s statements. Alexander Khinshtein, the acting governor of neighboring Kursk Oblast, specifically identified the casualties as members of the Russian National Guard. Fortunately, there were no civilian injuries; officials reported that rail services were disrupted but no passengers were harmed.
The explosion also caused significant delays, affecting at least ten trains along the Maloarkhangelsk-Glazunovka segment of the railway. The departure of the No. 726 Kursk-Moscow train was among those notably impacted, as reported by Moscow Railways.
In the wake of the incident, Klychkov reassured the public that authorities are actively investigating and searching for those responsible for planting the explosives. He emphasized that the situation is currently “under control.”
The incident underscores the ongoing tension in the region, as Ukrainian forces and affiliated partisan groups have been actively targeting Russian railway and energy infrastructures in recent months.
